As stated in sections 40 and 41 of the Judicial Services and Courts Act, the registrar of the Supreme Court:

  • assists the Chief Justice in the management of the administrative affairs of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, and the chief magistrate in the management of the administrative affairs of the Magistrates’ Court
  • assists the Chief Justice and the chief magistrate in ensuring the orderly and expeditious exercise of the jurisdiction of those courts
  • may act on behalf of the Chief Justice and the chief magistrate for the above 2 purposes 
  • assists the Chief Justice in undertaking his or her duties
  • is responsible for the efficient operation of the Supreme Court registry
  • must discharge such other duties as may be prescribed by the statutory orders or the Rules of Court.

Relating to court personnel, the registrar:

  • is responsible for the efficient management and control of court personnel
  • must advise the Chief Justice on the salaries and salary scales of court personnel
  • must identify, after consultation with the Chief Justice, training programs for court personnel
  • must bring to the notice of the Chief Justice any matter which affects the employment of court personnel
  • must implement statutory orders relating to court personnel.
