Going to Court

General Courtroom Protocols

When entering or exiting the courtroom you must pause briefly, face the Judge and bow.
When the Judge is entering or exiting the courtroom, the court clerk will announce for everyone to rise and stand, you are to remain standing until the Judge takes his seat or has departed.  

• Eating, smoking and chewing gum is prohibited in the court room.

• Mobile phones and portable music devices must be switched off prior to entering the courtroom.

• No unnecessary noise is permitted while the court is in session.

Dress code

Dress appropriately. No singlets, revealing clothes, hats or caps.  Sunglasses must be removed when entering the courtroom.

Addressing a Judicial Officer

A Judge is addressed as "Your Honour","Your Lordship" or "My Lord."
A Magistrate is addressed as "Your Worship."
