Accounts Section

The role of the Accounts Section is to provide judicial support for essential service delivery provided by the court. It helps maintaining the appropriate accounting system in accordance with the Public Finance and Management Act, the relevant regulations and manuals to better manage all public fund allocated to the Judiciary by appropriation of parliament.

 Key tasks in the Finance and Accounts section:

  • Prepare and monitor the annual budget as directed by the Chief Justice
  • Check all property of the courts and make sure they are in good condition for their respective use
  • Provide budget advice to the Chief Registrar and the Chief Judge
  • Establish and operate budget procedures and systems to control costs necessary to minimize expenditures
  • Management of all procurement procedures for goods and services with quotation and local purchase order commitment (LPO)
  • Keep records of all revenue collection in all courts in the country
  • Manage the Chief Registrar Trust Account held by the Supreme Court
  • Prepare the financial report and the balance sheet at the end of each financial year for audit purposes.

The accounts section of the Judicial Service is the centre where all purchases and payments are made. Any payment made by the Accounts Section shall be approved by the Chief Justice or the Head of Administration. All payments are made in local purchase order; there is no other method of payment. The revenues collected include fees and fines. There are only two methods of payment of the receipts: either in cash or by bank cheque.

Payments can be made at the Court Accounts office between 7:30am and 2:00pm.  Any payments after 2:00pm can be made at the Goverment cashier located at the Finance Department.
